England Wins Bid to Host World Test Championship Finals Through 2031

In a major victory for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that England will remain the host of the World Test Championship (WTC) Finals until 2031. This decision secures England’s hosting rights for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 finals, overcoming a bid from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The news comes as a significant win for the ECB, solidifying England’s position as a key player in the international cricket landscape. The BCCI’s bid, however, was a strong contender, showcasing the growing global influence of Indian cricket.

Beyond the WTC news, the ICC also confirmed some positive developments for women’s cricket. The Afghanistan women’s cricket team will participate in the next two women’s World Cups, a much-welcomed inclusion that signals progress in promoting women’s participation in the sport on the world stage.

Finally, the ICC issued a three-month ultimatum to USA Cricket, demanding the implementation of crucial governance reforms. The timeframe suggests a need for swift action to address issues within the governing body of the sport in the United States.
